WORKSHOP with KT Nelson of ODC/SF dance

KT started by explaining the the ODC style of dance is a combo of Ballet, Modern and Pedestrian movements or everyday life! The artistry comes into play as your try to blend those very different styles. She continues to explain "just by doing something pedestrian 'in unison', formalizes it. and if you play with timing or dynamics, you can abstract it even further". Context is a good thing in abstract dance - we live out there in the world and things inflitrate our consciousness andshow up in our work. How do we take these everyday things and make them into dance phrases, shapes and gestures?different physical relationships can create new landscapes with the body. AND -when you have to solve a problem -- the true voice of the artists comes out!
KT is a gracious and energizing mentor - and an incredible choreographer. Our students are so fortunate to learn from such a master teacher and we thank her and all of ODC for their participation in our class.
